Privacy Policy
This policy explains how we use your personal data when you visit our website, place an order or contact us. We are the data controller for this information under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect
- Order details: name, email, phone number, delivery address, items bought, order and payment status.
- Account details: if you create an account — your name, email and a securely hashed password, or your Google account ID, name, email and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Messages: anything you send us through the contact form, WhatsApp or email.
- Reviews: your name, rating and review text (your email isn't published).
- Website usage: pages visited, device type and the site that referred you. We don't store your IP address — visits are counted with an anonymous identifier that changes daily.
We do not receive or store your card details. Card payments are handled by Stripe.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To process and deliver your order and send order and tracking updates — performance of a contract.
- To run your account and order history — performance of a contract.
- To reply to enquiries — legitimate interests in responding to you.
- To keep financial records — legal obligation (HMRC requires records to be kept for 6 years).
- To understand how the shop is used and prevent fraud and spam — legitimate interests.
We don't send marketing emails unless you've asked to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Royal Mail and other carriers — your name, address and, where needed, email/phone for delivery updates.
- Google — only if you choose "Sign in with Google".
- WhatsApp (Meta) — only if you choose to message us on WhatsApp.
- Our hosting and email providers, who process data on our behalf under contract.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement) are in place. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records: 6 years for tax purposes. Accounts: until you ask us to delete them (order records are kept as above). Contact messages: up to 2 years. Anonymous analytics: up to 26 months. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Cookies
We only use cookies that are strictly necessary for the shop to work — keeping your basket, keeping you signed in and protecting forms against misuse. Our visitor statistics don't use cookies. Stripe sets its own cookies on its payment page for fraud prevention. Because we don't use advertising or tracking cookies, we don't show a cookie consent banner.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, and receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@originaldetailing.co.uk. We'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Security
The site uses HTTPS throughout, passwords are hashed, admin access is restricted and backups are encrypted in transit.
